Introduction
Standard Terrascope templates cover the basics, but your organization might need to track internal details like Project Codes, Department Owners, or Asset IDs. You can add up to 10 custom columns to any standard measurement template.
How to Add Custom Fields
Download the Template: Navigate to the Template tab and click on the download button to download the standard template
Add New Columns: You can insert new columns anywhere in the Data input tab —either between existing columns or at the very end of the sheet.
Rule: Each cell in these columns is limited to 255 characters.
Maximum of 10 extra columns per uploaded file - columns do not need to be identical across each scope category / file.
Here is a sample of a template with additional "Special Note" and "SKU of Goods / Services" columns containing custom data
Naming Your Fields: Give your column a clear header (e.g.,
Project_ID). Avoid special characters; stick to letters, numbers, and underscores.Populate and Upload: Fill in your data as usual. When you upload the file, the platform will automatically recognize these extra columns as Optional Fields.
As part of this step, you will see a popup requesting that you map the columns
The platform will raise an error when the columns do not map to the default list of columns available in the template. Click on the the "Troubleshoot" button.
Look for the name of the column added to the template in the "Uploaded columns" section. you will see that the "Template columns" column is empty. Click on the dropdown in the "Template columns" row.
Click on Create column.
In the popup that appears, provide the column name (this will be the column in which the fields will appear), and the expected data type.
After clicking on Add, the Column will be populated like so:
After clicking on Next, you will see a table containing all of the data provided in the file. Any data validation errors will appear here.
After addressing all errors, click on "Save changes".
The platform will now move to validating the ammended data, and then proceed to transform the data (and the rest of the data ingestion flow) once validation is successful.
Pro Tip: Keep your custom field names consistent across different uploads so you can filter by them later!
